3 Great Handheld Portable TV’s
Handheld portable tv’s are entertainment anywhere! The latest hendheld portable tv’s come with integrated digital tuners so you’ll be able to get local digital channels without having to add any additional equipment.
Let’s go ahead and talk about 3 of the best handheld portable tv’s.
The first portable tv is the one I bought for my wife, it’s the Axion AXN-8701 7-Inch Widescreen Handheld LCD TV with Built-In Tuner. My wife loves this little guy. We do a lot of school events and it’s really nice to have a TV near by when your sitting at a booth all day. The Axion is small enough to fit in her purse and has really bright screen with excellent contrast (even out in bright day light). The only downer about the Axion is that the battery only last 100 minutes and that can take up to 4 hours just to charge! That’s fine for watching a television program, but your really going to want to find a spot where you can plug in your ac adaptor.
- a 7 inch lcd wide screen.
- can automatically receive digital signals.
- has additional A/V jacks in back (so you can connect a dvd player for example).
- the antennae can be repositioned for better reception.
- comes with an ac adaptor for recharging the portable battery.
- and most of all…it’s only 2 pounds!
- oh yeah, it’s dirt cheap at about $89.00 over at Amazon
Here are 3 comments about the Axion (comments are from Amazon, Epinions and other forums).
“we purchased this unit for our mother’s kitchen. It works as expected, but the remote sorta sucks. It doesn’t have an on or off button and there is no volume control on the remote. Other than that, it’s a perfect fit for her kitchen”
“it’s got a pretty good picture, but the battery life is just a joke. 100 minutes is just not enough when you live in a storm prone area (we lose power all the time).”
“Good News:
Sharp, clear picture with external antenna.
Compact size.
Cute credit-card size remote.
Low current draw for long battery life.
Reasonable price.Not So Good News:
No on/off or volume control on remote (mute only).
Non-standard key layout on remote.Overall:
Good value if you don’t mind the quirks.”
My moms boyfriend has the Haier HLT71 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV and he seams to be pretty happy with it. The Haier is a staple of the backporch right next to the gas grill
.
For just a few buck more (about $95.00) you get a handheld portable tv that holds a 2.5 hour charge (that’s a lot better than the Axion at a little over an hour).
Here are a few specs on the Haier HLT71
- it’s got a 7 inch screen that can be configured to display 16 X 9 or 4 X 3 aspect ratios
- built-in digital tuner
- you can take off the antenna if you want to
- external connection on the back feature AV jacks plus a COAX connection (for hooking it up to cable or satellite).
- comes with an AC adaptor and a car adaptor (that’s really handy for trips).
- remote control
- it’s about 3 pounds (probably because of the larger battery)
- includes a headphone jack
Here are a few comments on the Haier HLT71 from Amazon.com
“I needed a small TV for my office. I love everything about this little TV except the volume doesn’t go very high. You almost need to be right in front of it to hear it. Other than that I love it. Great picture. Battery will last about two hours when fully charged.”
“I do video work and needed a TV that had a/v, analog tuner and digital tuner, coax input, and rechargable….this unit was a perfect fit. Very compact and seems to be well made. Easy to operate.”
Over all the comments on this 7 inch handheld were extremely positive as compared the Axion 7 inch (above). I’ll probably be upgrading to this as soon as the Axion bites the dust.
The last handheld portable tv that’s worth mentioning is the Axion AXN-8905 9-Inch Widescreen Handheld LCD TV. Obviously it’s 2 inches larger than the previous 2 portables I mentioned plus it has a built-in stand. Other features for this handheld include:
- built-in tuner for receiving digital signals.
- connections for external AV sources (like a dvd player).
- it’s got all the standard equipment like a remote control, ac adaptor, car adaptor and AV cables.
- only 1.8 pounds.
- battery lasts 2 hours (that’s pretty good for a 9 inch screen).
- headphone jack
Comments on the Axion AXN-8905 9-Inch:
“Great picture, but getting reception can be a challenge. Make sure you clear the area of metal objects (that helped us). We’ve had it in our kitchen for a few months and it makes cooking a lot easier, or should I say more enjoyable. Very happy so far”.
“The reception is pretty good but I needed to grab another antenna to get rid of the momentary static interference from passing objects. If you’re in a loud environment you probably won’t hear a thing…this TV needs louder speakers for sure”.
